Help Cats Protection
I've just heard on the news that Cats' Protection had £11.2 million of it's money in the collapsed Icelandic bank which is all over the news. They don't know if/when they'll get it back :-( So if you have anything at all to spare please send them a donation. For those who don't know Cats' Protection is the United Kingdom's biggest cat-specific charity, helping nearly 160,000 felines a year - and they don't kill healthy animals.

(MODS: if this isn't allowed on your comm, please remove and have my apologies)

EDIT: The link isn't working and I can't get it to function :-( The URL is www.cats.org.uk

The story of Zieki, who fell out the window.

**Warning** This post does request money at the end, not to be rude, just really in need of help. But not only money, your warm furry happy wishes for zieki or also very appreciated. I think the story itself is rather good too. Cross-posted through some cat loving communities, sorry if you see a repeat.**

I heard meowing on my way in the door one Saturday around 5 pm. This is not un-common as the downstairs neighbors have kitties that usually sit in the window and i like to meow back at them. Instead I saw a cat that looked exactly like Zieki, Kirstens little fluffy cat. Slight disbelief occurred in believing this was our cat, because he doesn't even like to go outside. So I scooped him up, concerned that he got out, but not too worried, and brought him indoors.

As soon as I put him down, I screamed, because he immediately fell forward and proceeded to flop like some horrible type of fish out of water. He had broken his legs! (i thought it was just one, but turns out to be both). This was a really horrible thing to see and no pet-owner should ever see their pets like that.

He didn't deserve this, he is such a nice cat. Never an angry thought in his cute little fluffy head. (Hes technically not mine, but we are very close and my cat Zander and him are good at being fluffy together) He is also not the brightest one, and I would never have believed he could be so brave.

2 broken legs! He was crying outside, but as soon as I had him in my arms he seemed fine. I was so impressed with him.

Luckily the huge cat hospital in Boston happens to be a short distance away, so he was in excellent care within a half hour. He was there from Saturday night to just coming home on Thursday.

While they took him away from us to check all his bones and then having to do 2 surgeries, one on each leg, I discovered some awful news. He had fallen out the window (3rd story) the night before! Me and his mother Kirsten had both been out that night and since we have a rather large house it was not unusual to not see a cat for a little bit. Turns out he fell out with the window screen and must have been knocked unconscious for a bit. Our downstairs neighbor found the screen and saw a cat (one of our 3rd roommates cats - Mio) in the window and panicked thinking she might fall out or jump and when she alerted our other roommate, I guess she acted like "oh whatever, thats weird". I'm really angry with her, she checked for her 2 cats (who happen to be rather nasty bitches I must say) and not for Zieki or Zander.

So the poor thing who doesn't like to be outside spent his first (and lets hope only) night outside in immense pain. Its so horrible.

But! The good news is that he made it through his surgeries wonderfully. Everyone at the vet fell in love with him and said he just kept purring and was happy to let them help him. When he came home on Thursday they said he probably wouldn't feel up to walking for at least a week, but he refused to even lay down! He was walking all over the place, exploring and enjoying the attention. He even jumped up on the bed (we tried to stop him of course) and did one of his most favorite things - hang out in a paper bag. He is doing so damn good and I'm really proud of him. Kirsten herself has been doing okay too, managed to stay mostly calm in the stress of all this including the financial cost. (There was never a minute in which we considered not to do the surgery, even though the vets kept asking about seeing finance people)

My friend made a quick website, where you could donate if you like, as the vet bills are over $5000 and we are rather poor people:

But more importantly it also has some wicked cute photos of him and should be updated in a few minutes with pictures of him looking all silly and shaved after surgery. We'll continue updating his recovery too.

Much love from out kitty family to yours,

Moderators - please let me know if you prefer this be removed or behind a cut or anything, I'd be happy to oblige. <3

Here's more on the Feral Cats and the ODA

I've emailed the RSPCA and Cats' Protection to bring it to their notice, and a friend in the media to see if any of her contacts are interested.
Also, if you have time, write to the press.

Help a cat lover!

I'm not sure if it's okay to post here, but I'm not sure where else to post. If it's not an appropriate post, I  apologize.

For the past six months, I've been living with the roommate from hell (seriously, from HELL). My lease is finally up, so my feline and I are striking out for greener pastures. However, my deposit is due this weekend, and my hours at work have recently been cut due to my company losing a big client. I've just started a second job, but I won't get my first paycheck in time. I know if I ended up without a place at the end of the month, friends would let me crash on their couch for a bit, but I'd hate to have my cat shuffled around, especially after being in a shelter when I got him. I've never been the type to do this sort of thing, but desperate times call for desperate measures, and this is truly a desperate time. Help a girl and her cat finally get a safe and happy place to live this weekend?
I have pictures of Beans, and a Paypal donation button, but I'm not sure how to post it here, but it's on my user info.

Little Kitty Bastard...being cute
When Rusty was little his nick name was "Little Kitty Bastard" because he got himself into so much trouble.  No we call him the "Evil Six Toed Kitty."  Every now and then he has a moment or two of  cuteness that gets out...so here are some pics of this month's sweet minute.

It's a Theme

I just had to put these up too, after the bathtub/shower conversation.  It was time to clean the bathroom, and when the door opened, Francis ran and jumped into the tub...and two of his brothers followed.  Taking kitty pics is more fun than cleaning anyway!

Crazy Water Kitties
I took these a while ago.  Both cats, Francis and Rusty, love water...little freaks.  My husband taught Rusty how to "wash his hands" under the running water.  Very cute, but not when I wash my sink  and cabinets five times a day because of all the paw prints!  Francis now refuses to drink out of the water bowl...he'll just sit in the sink and cry until someone turns on the water.

I'm new at LJ, and will attempt a cut after the first pic.  Enjoy!

Is it dinner time?
I've been putting up lots of cats in the last week. Running out of them now! Finally put up the "big" one, 9" x 12" is big enough when you have to post it around the world!

Muffet and friends

Muffet (the cat) is fully grown, she is now 16 months old. You can read about Muffet at www.miss-muffet.org The birdies are love birds, only 6 weeks old!

The parrot people will probably yell at me, but believe me, everyone is safe. We had to wake them up to take the photo. They just ignore each other.

So if you are going to tell me that I'm irresponsible, just move on, you don't know my animals.

My Cat Has An Infected TOE! Any Advice?

My cat, Kiplin, has a swollen toe and I don’t know what to do.

It is on a front paw and it is swollen really big so I know that there is some form of infection in there but he doesn’t have a fever and the toe itself, though distorted, isn’t inflamed or hot…

There seems to be some kind of wound between the toes and when I spread them apart to look there seems to be a sheen of serum leaking out of the side of the infected toe… Not a lot but enough to show moisture.

If he had a fever I would rush him to an emergency vet but since he seems OK otherwise and keeps licking and chewing on the infected toe I am just not sure if I should panic or if I should just let nature take it’s course and see if it will fix itself.

Any advice??

I am almost always on AIM if you have advice… AvatarOfUrDreams is my AIM Name.

Thx for any advice you can provide!

Muffet and friend.
Muffet and Norman have discovered each other and it's love at first nibble. Both could move away if they wanted, but they are happy to stay with each other and kiss through the cage. I took Norman out, but he wanted to stand on Muffets back and she didn't like that

A little help
Hello everyone.

I'm a first-time owner of a six-weeks old kitten my parents brought home a few days ago. He's healthy and very playful, but since I've never had a kitten before, I have to learn everything as I go along.

My problem is this: he doesn't sleep unless I let him climb into bed with me and sleep there. If I ignore him, he climbs himself and if I put him back, he climbs again. And again. Sometimes I get the feeling he could do this for an  entire night just to get a point across.
I don't exactly have a problem with this but I'd like him to learn to sleep in his basket as well. I think he's comfortable, because he rests there during the day and plays in it, he just won't sleep there. One of my friends who's a long-time cat owner told me to put a t-shirt of mine in the basket, so he'll get used to the scent and I did that as well, but it still doesn't work.

Do you have any advice I could use to teach him?

Thank you.

Help with transporting a cat.
While I was over in Northern Ireland last week I accidentally adopted a stray cat. He's
a tabby, about 9 months old and we've called him Murphy. He turned up a week ago today when I was feeling really crap, and I fell in love at first sight. (There's also his brother, mostly white with pale grey splodges but he is terrified of people)

Now the problem is that none of the airlines flying out on N.I. will let me fly him back to England - I phoned both the airports to ask, because if one had said yes I'd have bought a new ticket for one of their flights. The coach company that operates via ferry won't take pets either.

So my question is, is there anyone in the Belfast/Ards Peninsula area who is coming to England by car and ferry in the near future who would be willing to bring Murphy over? - I'd meet you at the port and take him from there. Or does anyone have any other ideas?

(leaving him with my Mum isn't really an option as she has an elderly cat who doesn't like having her routine disturbed, and Mum is old and frail herself so doesn't want another cat)

P.S. How long does it take to get the FIV blood test results? I need to get him tested before I bring him home to our boys.
